It's exclusionary by design, even when it's not by intent.

The Cost

Every time someone says “let's take this offline” in a meeting, precious seconds tick away as people decode what that actually means. Multiply that across millions of meetings, emails, and Slack messages every day.

But the real cost isn't time—it's trust.

When a job posting says “competitive salary” but means “below market rate,” that's not just jargon. That's deception dressed in professional clothing.

When “we're like a family” means “we'll expect you to sacrifice your personal life,” we've weaponized language against the very people we're trying to recruit.

The Mission

This dictionary exists not to mock corporate culture—though some of it deserves mockery—but to translate it. To help job seekers understand what they're really signing up for. Next time you're in a meeting and someone asks you to “socialize this with the broader team,” ask them what they actually mean.

When you write that email, delete the jargon. Just say what you need to say.
